I just have a few updates to post.
Pop Pop was barely home a week from the rehab center, and ended up back in the hospital. He is out now, though, after a short stay (and no rehab stay, this time.)
As for me, after meeting with the bariatric surgeon, I underwent a couple of tests. He was concerned about the issue with me not being able to eat sitting up, and wanted to try to figure out why before he proceeded with surgery. He sent me for an upper GI study and another endoscopy, the latter which he did himself. Both tests seem to show an answer to the one and a half year mystery: a hiatal hernia! This would explain the issues with my stomach being funny about rejecting food in certain positions, and also can induce reflux symptoms and thus explain why my throat has been sore the entire time and I have trouble swallowing and am hoarse. On one hand I am relieved that they finally found an answer. When the bariatric surgeon does the gastric sleeve surgery, he can fix the hernia at the same time! On the other hand I am beyond frustrated it took this long for an answer to be found. That is a long time to have gone not eating out and not sitting at the table, etc. I still, however, have to play the insurance company game. Since the surgeries have to be done together, I must wait until late May to early June for a surgery date.
Hopefully I will not have any major updates anytime soon. 🙂
