Hall of Shame: Dreamfields

For those of us who are diabetic, pre-diabetic, or simply want to eat a low carb diet, we depend on labels to help us choose healthy choices. When it comes to pasta, Dreamfields was a no brainer: it tastes like normal pasta, but a special process prevents most of the carbs from being digestible. My pasta has been completely changed over to Dreamfields over the past couple of years.

Suspicions started to come forth a few years ago, when people wondered just how these carbs were “protected.” A diabetic online did a test himself, eating regular pasta and testing his blood sugar, and then eating Dreamfields on another occasion and testing his blood. There were no differences in raises in blood sugar! The package though clearly states there are only 5 net carbs.

After a few studies challenging Dreamfields claims, a lawsuit was put forth. Dreamfields finally settled for almost 8 million for false advertising, and will be forced to change their claims and packaging to be less deceptive. If you bought Dreamfields over the past few years, you are entitled to get your money refunded through the terms of the lawsuit. (Online sales will be automatic, in-store will require claim forms.)
