It’s been a while since I posted an update on my father-in-law, Dale. Last I posted on January 7th, he had still been in the hospital. Since then, he was sent to a rehab nursing home to gain his strength to go home. During his time there, Brian had to check him out to take him for the PET scan they had to put off previously.
After being taken for the PET scan and returning to the rehab center, he needed to be checked out, again, to go back to the hospital for a biopsy of one of the spots found on his lung. Well, they made a mistake while getting the biopsy, and pierced his lung, causing his lung to collapse! He had a tube hanging out of him, and they ended up needing to admit him back to the hospital. For a while his lungs were only working at 30%!
While in the hospital, the pathology came back and he was confirmed as having lung cancer. I can’t say we are surprised, as we expected it was going to be the case. He was released yesterday, and is now back home. (Tufu, his cat, was REALLY excited to see him and would not leave his side!) We are now waiting to hear his next steps. His cardiologist has to clear him for surgery before the can even think about operating to remove the mass (or masses…I am not sure how many there are.) The doctors feel at this time that he is either at stage 2 or 3. They also need to decide if chemo and/or radiation is on the horizon.
Thank you to everyone who has been praying for Dale. Our family really appreciates it. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he starts his cancer journey.
