I know I hinted at this on Facebook already, but I am going to finally be having the surgery. (Finally, meaning after 2 years of being pushed off, for various reasons!!!)
The official date has also been set: March 24th.
The plan as of now is that the tumor/mass is the priority. For those catching up, it is on my adrenal gland. It is, as of now, about 13 cm in size (yes, that is not a mistake, it is roughly the size of a grapefruit.) It is dense (26 HU), and although my surgeon still calls it a “cyst”, my endocrinologist classifies it as a tumor, as the absolute extreme cutoff for a cyst is 18 HU, and mine is thicker than that. The mass is obviously over the 4 cm cutoff for needing surgery, and is calcified (and “suspicious”, as the endocrinologist says.) It is also, according to CT scans, probably attached to my kidney. (Meaning it is also likely for the kidney to be damaged or even have to goduring the surgery. All this, combined with the fact that I have two hernias (one is back for the 3rd time) and need my abdominal wall reconstructed, this will be a major surgery. They are using the full line abdominal incision from my ovarian cancer surgery to do this surgery, as well. I am expected to be in the hospital at least a week. Also, as a lovely bonus *LOL* my oncologist figures he will take advantage of the fact that I am being opened already, and pop in and do some pathology for my ovarian cancer. They don’t expect to find anything, really, but if they do they will be doing some debulking — removing a bunch of stuff. In the long run, getting my hernias fixed will totally depend on whether they get too caught up with other stuff. If either the adrenal mass tests cancerous or they find ovarian cancer cells, this will make the surgery even messier than it needs to be.
After I am recovered, my thyroid will need to be addressed. I will try not to think about that now. More surgery *rolls eyes* is all I need. On that note, I went for blood work today, to monitor the thyroid. Hopefully at least that is doing well with medication.
Other updates:
Buddy got his electric stim machine. 🙂 He is happy!
Brian, however, has a sprained ankle, we think. Driving foot, of course, so he is going to the doctor tomorrow.
Other:
I promise, I will try to get my android app picks up soon. Now my husband can put some input into this…he loves his new HTC Droid Incredible!
